St. Thadeus Pre and Primary School is a co-educational day and boarding school in Arusha, Tanzania, as one of the prominent and leading primary schools in the Arusha city council for pupils aged 2-13 years. Our school is located in Arusha City, Elerai Ward at Burka Street, in between Shamsi (Dodoma Road) and Sakina Kibanda Maziwa (Namanga Road) near Sakina Secondary School, a 7-10 minutes’ drive from Tarmac Road. It caters to Arusha city and neighboring districts; we also operate a daily door-to-door minibus service for those who live in Arusha and provide the best accommodation and education service for boarding students.
The idea of establishing St. Thadeus Pre and Primary took shape in 2002. The driving force behind this initiative was the late Mr. Thadeus J. Laymuya, who passed away in November 2024, alongside his wife, the current Director Hilda J. Msechu. Their vision was to provide a pathway to better education, particularly for marginalized, orphaned, disabled, and poor boys and girls residing in Arusha city and the nearby districts. The aim was to make quality education accessible at affordable rates to these underserved communities.
The school is not biased in terms of gender, ethnicity, race, or religion and is targeted to sponsor at least 10% of its pupils and find more sponsorship from other organizations, individuals, and private companies to assist disabled, marginalized, and less privileged children. The school was originally established on 21st January 2002 as a Daycare center with 1 child. It continued growing each year; it introduced Preschool, Primary education, and was later registered on 21/11/2006 with the registration number EM. 13514. Today, the school has a student body of 250 pupils, including 135 boys and 116 girls, all benefiting from an environment that prioritizes holistic development. The school has employed 12 teachers and 9 other staff; it is sponsoring 10 students from less privileged Arusha city and neighboring districts, which is far less than the target of 10% of the total number of enrolled students, which should be 30.
St. Thadeus Pre & Primary School is a Day and Boarding School that complements government efforts by striving to build a strong education foundation with reliable financial support, which will enable it to have a long-term impact. It is also in line with the UN sustainable goals focusing on quality education, which is a crucial goal in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It underpins progress in many other areas, including poverty reduction, health, gender equality, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.
